BessRe at the 2026 EESA Summit Belgium: closing the last mile of storage operations

On 13 October 2026, BessRe founder Liang Sun joined Panel Dialogue III at the 2026 EESA Summit Belgium in Brussels, organised by EESA and CIOC Energy. The panel, moderated by Wouter Vandorpe of Baker McKenzie, asked how projects bridge the last mile of financing and long-term operations. Liang shared the stage with Christian Berardis (BNP Paribas), Vincent Verhaeghe (PowerBee), Filip Lesaffer (2Valorise) and Sergio Casanova Planes (Hoymiles).
Three points from BessRe
The risk sits in the seams. A battery site combines a PCS, a battery management system, an EMS, HVAC and fire protection, often from different suppliers. When something fails, each party covers a piece. Writing the boundary into the contract gives every failure exactly one owner.
Lenders need evidence, not brands. Critical spares stocked in Europe, operating data both sides can read, and a European counterparty accountable for availability.
A long tenor is earned. Start with a shorter service term on one site and extend on the data.
BessRe is the party accountable for availability and response time of storage assets in Europe. We sell no hardware, integrate nothing, distribute nothing — our revenue comes only from service contracts, so we have no reason to favour any manufacturer’s account of a failure.
Our thanks to EESA, CIOC Energy, Alexander De Bièvre and Simon Xu for the invitation, and to the moderator and fellow panellists for an open discussion.
